Harvey Weisenberg is a lifelong resident of Long Beach, New York. He has been a lifeguard, coach, police officer, restaurant owner, special education teacher, and elementary school assistant principal. He is also a seasoned politician who spent thirteen years serving on the Long Beach City Council. During the 1970s and 1980s, he helped to turn Long Beach into a thriving economy and recreation destination.

From there, he took his political skills to Albany, serving twenty-five years as a state assemblyman representing Assembly District 20 from 1989 until he retired in 2014. Working across the aisle, he got 337 bills signed into law during his time in office, many with national resonance. He is best known for groundbreaking legislation for special needs families. Weisenberg has dedicated his life to insuring the removal of barriers, improving access, and enhancing the quality of life for those who are mentally and/or physically challenged.
