Go to any pharmacy today, and you’ll find dozens of homeopathic products that provide relief from a host of health issues—from stress to sinus congestion to jet lag. The fact is, homeopathy has become a widely accepted way of treating many common emotional and physical disorders. And why not? Homeopathic medicines have no known side effects, are easy to take, and are reasonably priced compared with pharmaceuticals. In response to the growing interest in this traditional method of healing, best-selling author Dr. Earl Mindell has written a simple and concise guide to understanding and using homeopathic remedies.

In What You Must Know About Homeopathic Remedies, Dr. Mindell first explores the fascinating history of homeopathy. He then explains the basic medicinal principles behind this healing art, specifically, how and why homeopathic remedies work. The balance of the book is an easy-to-follow guide to the ingredients used in homeopathic formulas along with a list of common disorders and their most effective homeopathic remedies. Dr. Mindell concludes the book with a chapter on what should be included in a homeopathic first aid kit.

If you are one of the millions of people who are turning to homeopathic products for relief, here is a simple way to find the best formula for your health problem. If you have never considered using a homeopathic remedy, perhaps it is time to learn what all the excitement is about. What You Must Know About Homeopathic Remedies is a good place to start.

Introduction or preface

Introduction

Homeopathy is a safe and effective way to treat a variety of health disorders. While it has been used throughout Europe, India and North America for well over two hundred years, its popularity has exploded over the last decade. Walk into any pharmacy or health food store,
and you will find dozens of homeopathic remedies for sale. However, as the number of these products has increased, so has the confusion regarding which ones are best to employ in different situations. As a pharmacist, I firmly believe that it is vital for you to have a clear
idea of what you are taking to address your health problem. That is why I wrote What You Must Know About Homeopathic Remedies. The more you know, the better your decisions will be.

Like all truly effective forms of alternative medicine, homeopathy takes the whole person into account, including their physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness. Its principles are based on common sense, observation, and many years of trial and error. As you will see, some homeopathic remedies work very quickly and noticeably. For example, with some types of flu, the remedy Oscillococcinum can reduce symptoms in a matter of hours. But in other instances, it may take weeks or even months for a homeopathic remedy to take full effect. By finding the right formula and understanding what to expect, you will be able to address
your problem more successfully and have a greater understanding of your recovery.

I have tried to keep this book short and to the point. The book contains five chapters. Chapter One provides you with an understanding of the history and science of homeopathy. The second chapter explains how the formulas are created and how they should be used. Chapter Three lists the sixty-two most commonly prescribed remedies along with the symptoms that they can effectively treat. Chapter Four addresses fifty-nine of the most common health disorders and their homeopathic treatments. This chapter looks at both shortterm and chronic health issues and also focuses on childhood illnesses, women’s disorders, and sports injuries. Chapter Five offers advice on homeopathic first aid measures that you can use at home. Also included are resources that can help you learn more about the
subject.

Once you have a better sense of what homeopathy can do for you or a loved one, I strongly recommend working with a licensed homeopathic physician whenever you deal with a serious condition. These professionals can provide you with a full range of powerful remedies. Should any health issue persist, never be afraid to seek the advice of another health provider. Again, the better informed you are, the better your decisions will be.
